A Toast To Lasting Love

by Myra Wexler Darwish — Read all 62 poems by Myra Wexler Darwish

The poem "A Toast To Lasting Love" is a celebration of our many years together...we've grown together, laughed together, been sad together...and throughout it all - it was love that bound our hearts together; love is miraculous!

 A TOAST TO LASTING LOVE

(This poem is written in honor of our 56th Valentine Day together –

in tribute to the heart, which transcends all)

As we raise our glasses for the fifty-sixth time

Gazing into each other’s memory-filled eyes,

I will recall those days so long ago when passion was at its peak,

And celebrate what we have shared - loving each other for so many years!

Time hasn’t changed what is on the inside,

For love itself can transcend all outer differences.

Our hearts, though older, are wiser too.

For now we can look at each other with a deeper contemplation,

Knowing and anticipating what will make us feel comforted and cared for.

Passion now lies in our collective experience of being together,

It is this intense intimacy that moves us toward our future – never forgetting

The seeds of loyalty & trust, planted those many years ago when our love was new.

Salute!

Congratulations on 56 valentine's together. It's been 40 for my wife and In this day and age, relationships don't last near that long. None of the married couples we ran around with all those years ago are still together, and many have been divorced and remarried several times. Good luck to you and your husband.
