WISHES
By, Myra Wexler Darwish
How time changes our lofty reach to the unknown.
Humbled am I, remembering my spoken words
As a young woman of seventeen…
“Please send me someone to love,”
And, I was abundantly heard.
Life unfolded and responsibilities grew,
Yet there was no more the need to ask for love,
For joy was richly felt.
Roles expanded and talents emerged,
I asked then for, “My family’s well-being.”
Like a rapid current, life moved swiftly at mid-age.
Relationships matured and changed,
Careers and life choices were contemplated.
I reached out once more and wished that
“We would all find our way to live our true destinies.”
In my later years, all that I have embraced throughout my life
Has become molded into the shape of my current form.
Knowing this, I remembered the “Love” I had first wished for,
Which I now see reflected in the eyes of my grandchildren.
Smiling, I realized that I never need to wish for anything again.
