THE HANDS OF TIME
By Myra Wexler Darwish
I moved the hands of time backward
To the day that I was born,
Where I saw my family’s welcome,
As light greets a nascent morn.
I never asked for fame or talents
I simply asked, “Will you love me?”
And received their love unconditionally
Being nurtured to grow and be.
As the hands of time moved forward
Their affection lifted me,
And I grew into a person,
Who was encouraged to be free.
I’ve lived through years of searching
About the mysteries of life
And have readily concluded
That there always will be strife.
But choice will always be there too,
It is your dearest friend.
Perhaps you’ll want the opposite
And know joy in the end.
What will my final days be
Upon this earthly plane?
I will use love to guide me,
As my ephemeral time remains.

My sister told me today that although he has an army truck from the 1950s and a used four wheeler that needed repairs, as well as his son restoring the 1938 Buick sedan, her husband is no longer interested in working on those vehicles and "has no hobbies."
She told me that they are too busy. Busy doing what in their efficient little home they built? Removing snow from the driveway? I don't know.
