I've chased butterflies in my mind
as I watch them fly above the lily pond
They fly hurridly...
so I cannot keep them in a jar
or make them a prisoner of my love
When I was a child
I saw them with different eyes
and only thought of their beauty-
for it was nice to keep it all
...for myself
Such wondrous colors on their wings
painted with careful abstraction-
an unfolding about the mystery of life
and the need to go on living
If I should look at nature's truth
I might see myself-
For I have changes on my face
brought on by wrinkles
and I have the quest to survive
even when my own life
might be a struggle....
