Hope lies amongst those
with rain-soaked homes
from Katrina
They wish for blue skies
once again
and they stumble
past the rubble
and graveyards
with that grim reminder
of death
While they bite the bullet
so to speak
they know the water well
like an old friend
who once betrayed
their hearts
and they lost
their desires
for creole and jazz
Some moved on
to gardens
planted by love
with high walls
and dry ground
and the pillows
under their heads
became their comfort
when memories got lost
in space
between grief
and contradiction
At last- some have survived
by the waters edge
Lights seen by their souls
gave their feet
a traveler's welcome
and God gave their mind
a new beginning...
