Thistles Became a Part of My Past

by Antoinette Kopperfield — Read all 219 poems by Antoinette Kopperfield

I wrote this while driving back from the airport this morning.
It was early and I was inspired...
about love and life

Friday, September 1, 2006

Birds flying out of nests
for the first time
soar with their newfound freedom
like people making changes
in their lives

I no longer feel
the need to change.
I am who I am.

Love is put on the forefront
of my life
and gives me reasons
to go on...
like mornings with fresh air
scented with lilacs
and truth staring at me
in places
I have never been

Vast dreams lay before me
like ocean breezes
tantalizing my skin
and the sounds of seagulls
etching waves
against my eardrums

You, me in love...
like naked souls
amongst thousands
of empty hearts

I became who I am
when you crossed my path
Your angelic wings
wrapped me in hope
and thistles
became a part of my past
