Can I still love
when shadows are caught
between walls of thorns
nestled amongst trellises
painted black from
past regressions?
Can I still love
beauty or rays of sunshine
when I walk with dreams
shattered once and again
by tremors
pounding against my heart?
Can I still love
the crisp morning dew
and hear the birds sing
me a song
if I no longer listen
to my heart and hatred
befalls my existence?
Yes, yes, yes!
for it is light...
that I should capture
and carry within
for a well-lit soul
shines among the darkness
illuminating
God...
