Souls Always Withstand Lack of Love

by Antoinette Kopperfield — Read all 219 poems by Antoinette Kopperfield

Tuesday, February 10, 2004

We set each other’s stage
for words lingering in darkness
not found until they are spoken
or dreamt about by our souls

We carry the burdens
of humanity’s downfalls
and they are not lifted
from shoulders weak with age

We strive to climb mountains
walking paths unforeseen
Words taken from books
carry us to heights with gray skies

Swords and daggers do not prevail
unless they are meant
to do harm to others
We cannot sit upon blood already spilled

I dream of utopia in my mind
Placid, peaceful light
It waits for us all…
and is reached by only giving

Dream your dreams
Cry your tears slowly...
Drip them only with shallowness
For souls withstand lack of love
