As I reflect on the intimacy and intricacies of relationships, I know that each new adventure in life starts with small steps ever growing into bigger ones each day. As a youth, I remember crossing the creek near my home by jumping from rock to rock to reach the other side. At first the way across was to use many rocks with short distances in between. As fear was whittled away and practice became patience, I noticed I could take bigger leaps on the stones to cross the stream. Sometimes I would get wet and sometimes I could cross with no problems. Each one of us crosses over stones in our journey to get to the other side of life. I know love and have lived love much in my life. Sometmes falling into the stream of hurts causes us to flow downstream and give up, and then there are those who hit the stream and are back on the stones like a cat out of water. Thus, my journey into life is a process of crossings. One new day after another. Another stone crossed and with my mind, body, and spirit aware of who waits on the other side of life, I leap once again on the stones:
The stones are small that I must cross. The stream flows with ripples tossed. Each step brings joy and fear. She's on the other side; so far, yet so near. The stones are slippery with life's woes. Just straight across is the way to go. If the stones were alined and the course was straight, The way would be easy and never the wait. But time brings anew each day, A fathomless love is the price I'll pay. I may fall in the tossing torrent, But wisdom brings me back across the current. On the other bank again I see Arms open wide waiting for me. I often wonder why she won't cross. The price is high and great the loss. Yet, it is I who must find the way you see For on the other side of life awaits the other side of me.
