Standing in the Silence of Love

When love runs wild on the rails, you have to run wild to catch it before it comes off the track.

Standing in the silence of love, steadfast, placed in certain repose.

All the answers come, the do’s and don’ts the yes’s and the no’s.

Opinions given aloud with meaningful purpose

To guide what many think as an unmanageable circus.

The loudness of those remarks echoes long into the night.

Where my flight is fast and fast the fight.

If I could only find the one who knew

What it was like to wear my shoes.

Then silence would no longer be quiet in my ears

And I would listen to wisdom far beyond my years.

Stand, as your heart beats life into your soul

Time is so short. Our youth grows old.

I stand on roads much traveled, yet I am lost.

A dangerous crossroads, intrigue, great cost.

Silence encompasses the crossing’s bell.

All is well. All is well.

I wait at life’s crossing gate as her train flies by

Knowing forever, life is changed in the twinkling of an eye.

Her train is long and strangely quiet as it clickety- clacks along her tracks.

No whistle blowing, no stately showing, just fades to black.

Darkened silence covers the vapidity of her life.

I offer my tracks and to share her strife.

But in love’s silence she perseveres through

Knowing old broken tracks in silence becomes new.

Surreal she stands in her silence of love.

Looking for guidance from all above.

In love’s silence, clickety-clack, clickety-clack.

Her train has struggled for years not riding the track.

Beautifully sustained and controlled metaphor, Richard. You hold your line so well, and yet, within that, weave in your connecting thoughts so adroitly. I noticed the title in the New Poetry List and it struck me right between the eyes as a compelling one. And the poem lives up to it. Somehow, I can hear this being read... thoughtful, insistent and yet inherently relaxed. I was certainly caught up into the slipstream of your consciousness and travelled easily through your breathy lines. Much enjoyed, thank you. Kate
