We all have keys that unlock certain places.

Broken down, locked up

Her heart felt trapped. Until

Into turmoil she spun

As if her world was breeched.

Never before had she felt

A soft touch or heard kind words.

She cringed at the fear of being

Rejected, yet she threw away the key.

As I kick along the tracks in the snow

Content to be alone with just my thoughts,

I hear a metallic click against the rails. How

Odd to find a key along the tracks. A big jailhouse

Key with etched writing. I stand and wonder who

Passed by this way and what does the key fit.

I continue on with my thoughts as I sit by the river

And listen to the flow of the water try and escape

The gathering ice. I hold the key in my hand and

Feel the shape as I look deep within the abyss of

The sky and catch a star falling by. I close my eyes

And move back against the rock ledge.

I come to ponder deep things in life within the realm

Of this spot. A deep pool still not frozen reveals the

Crescent of the moon as I realize that not long ago I threw

Away my key. But as time went by so was my key passed

Onto others who knew how to open my door.

Friends, lovers and lover’s again being friends breeched

My sacred ground. I grin as I know what friendship and

Love really means. A dreary mist begins to settle on my face

As I hear rocks clang along the rails. I stand to see a

silhouette emerging from the wall of vapor.

I feel the key warm in my pocket as her auburn hair draped

Over her shoulders as she kicks along. I hear her words

Of shame and broken hearts. Of evil done to her by those who

Said I love you. This is her key I have in my hand. I exit the

Shadows and she is not afraid as I offer out my hand.

Her eyes glared like a cats reading if I were danger. Her senses

Full ready for flight. I un-fist my hand and hold out the key.

The soft glow of the moon and the wetness of the cold

Give her pause. Her chest rises as she takes the key from

My hand. My heart races as her fingers touch my skin.

I brush the back of her hand and smile in complete silence.

I see her pain, her distrust of all things male. We have traveled

Similar roads that is for sure. She knew my meaning and smiled

As her heart was breeched once again.

This is beautiful, Randy. I love the idea of the key "unlocking" pain of the past, and I can almost visualize you walking on those tracks.
