Death Comes Calling

I felt death come calling today Standing silent and chill by my chair Ready� But oh so patient He giggled, his red eyes dancing with manic glee And with arctic breath blew icy puffs at my neck Shuddering� I felt those bony fingers running tenderly down my spine Probing my soft flesh with his rotting hands�. A dark chef testing an entree for doneness The charnel smell washed over my trembling body as he bent over and whispered It�s almost time my dear To cease the dance And come walk with me I will sing you songs of pain and loss Enrobed in blood of innocence lost The screams of the dying your lullabye In the inky black of my realm Your tears shall quench my thirst Your soul shall sate my hunger Your pain and fear a balm to me When I return weary from my dark harvesting Softly he touched the lone tear Sliding down my cheek Closing his eyes in ecstasy�. he licked it And turned away Whispering...... I�ll be seeing you�.

Awesome Candida! I like how you give this poem time to unfold. It's so appropriate. You set a mood and tone that's so in sync. with the theme, which is a chilling one. I could almost feel the coldness myself. Great job, and thanks for responding to my poetry. Your feedback means a lot.
