a friend thought it would be cool
to
put together a few of my pieces
and
bind a book
gave them to another
totally different vision
wrong
wrong
wrong
the font
the misspells
the little computer characters all over
distractions
nice thought
ill wrought
poems centered previously not
not broken down like I wanted them
they lost
their punch
they lost
me
what do you say
gee
thanks
gee
I hate this
gee
don’t ever touch my stuff
and massacre it again
gee
golly gee
I know I know
ingrate I am
someone took the time
the energy
surprise look your first book
gee
thanks?
but
maybe
this is but a taste
a tiny bit of the reality
of
the real world
where someone else sees a different
version
of you
this is really what you meant
this is really the word you wanted to say
do you have a lot of anger
fuck you I’ll show you anger
I just got the balls to say it
outloud
well
I got news
I is what I is
if I wrote it like that
then for crying out loud
that’s how I want it
period
no ands ifs or buts about it
thanks but no thanks
anyhoot
now I got a book
albeit
not
mine
we Arteests are sensitive
no?

You tell em!! If 'you' wanna write stuff.. write it and leave your commas and centered nonsense OFF mine! What are we here.. ROCK STARS?! If I want my creative juices drained I'll pull my own plug.. oh wait! thats exactly how I write everything! but its ME who decides to plug it up again til the next time.. Damned fine write.. you speak for us all.. thanks, Josie. katy.

I hope that someday you'll meet a good editor. One who works with you to suggest placements and juxtapositions you wish you had thought of. One who has the courage to say, "This isn't up to your standards." even when it's a poem you like because you're still angry at someone. There's a world of differance between a well-meaning putz and a professional editor.

Well said, indeed, Josie. Why do they have editors for art, especially poetry anyway? Who ever made that a profession and managed to force a living out of it?

Great job on this one! We write what we write, when and how we want to write it.

I agree 100%, Josie. You should have the creative control over your poetry. I once had an editor agree to publish my work if I cleaned up all the f-words. :) I said: "no thanks". I'd rather self-publish than have my work "watered down" for general consumption.

I'd feel the same way--it's like our writings are our children...and I sure don't want anyone messin' with 'em unless it's me! (whether they want it or not!)

I find it almost as bad as a lover trying to change everything they fell in love with you for...don't mess with my stuff please write your own...and if I fail fine I accept it...but to do otherwise Josie would not be you, so you are right to feel as you do, and not an ingrate, just honest! Which is why your loved;-)!

Hi Josie,

You're damn right, we are sensitive but also creative and we KNOW what we created. I am going through some things myself with an upcoming book but thank God, I have creative control, so far. Wishing you all of the best! Love, Janet xoxoxo

josie, this is so heartfelt...i'm sorry this happened to you...you deserve better. thank you for opening up your feelings...and know we care. your writings should be put exactly as you've written them, or they aren't yours anymore...and i love your writes, exactly as they are...you've captured my feelings perfectly! well done...(((HUGS))) and love, karla. :(
