a handful
of all the millions
of people inhabiting
this planet
just a handful
that we call our own
you got your mom and dad
maybe a husband or wife
possibly some kids
one or two brothers
and
if you’re lucky a sister or two
I’m lucky I have a sister or two
my lifeblood
the ones I call when I’m in the pit
the ones I
couldn’t have got this far without
the ones I
depend on to hold down the fort
in the old hometown
and
then
I do something moronic
like
forget
a
birthday
January’s not a good birthday month for me
takes me a month to transfer from the old calendar to the new
not a good excuse
I know
I did that this morning
grabbed the old out
and when I say the 22nd
and saw my baby sisters’ name
I
felt
like
such a dork
hello,
so wrapped up in your own life
forgetter of the people that
really love you, stand by you, would
take a shovel and move a mountain
for
you
hello
what are you doing
get your friggin head in the game
pay attention
for gods sake
you get a handful
just a handful
out of the millions that inhabit
the earth
to say
happy birthday
I love you
so
I owe ya
two bottles of zin
and an all you can eat
bacon wrap
shrimp dinner
love
me
