When the sun
Descends to earth
And the curtain falls
To end another day,
I am lost within myself
In the still of solitude,
My ear attuned
To silent music.

Once again I dance,
Embraced by a shadow
That I’ve known for always.

Twilight interlude,
Indulge my memory
Of a simple dream,
Swaying to the notes
I play in my mind.

Subtle beam of ivory
In a ballroom built for one –
A lonely waltz
By a child of many years
Who can find within myself
The welcome smile
That comes from a friend.

In the night, I dance,
My arm around a vision
That pleases my mind’s eye.

I can feel the kiss
Of moments imagined –
Just as real as time
Moving to the beat.

I wish for, in twilight,
A rumba to soothe
And hasten a long night;
A tango can transform
My soul into light.

I will turn my eyes to gaze
At the passing of the clouds
Throughout the sky;
While the indigo recedes,
I will kiss”good-bye” my shadow
As it fades within the morning.

With the sun, I’ll dance,
Oblivious to being
Alone or feeling lonely.

I can always find
A partner in a memory
And a love within,
Swaying to the notes
I play in my mind.
