This poem was written for the wedding of Cornelius and Melissa that took place on April 17, 2004. Much success to them both!

It was a day we can’t forget--- April 16, 2003--- the day the eyes of my heart were
Opened to finally see the one that my Heavenly Father had in mind for me.
Other relationships had come and gone, never returning my affections, making me feel I was alone,
But with you it was different.
We met over the phone and in that one day something inside me broke away and revealed that maybe you weren’t like the rest.

When we talked it seemed as though we had just been brought together to finish each other’s sentences.
When we talked, it appeared to me that you were the listening ear I had been missing.

You respected who I was, not what I had, and I was so glad that we could go out in public and you be proud to be seen with me.
My insecurities were erased by the qualities in you that made us feel finally complete.
When we finally said ‘I love you,’ they weren’t just words but what seemed like verses to a song we were meant to recite only at that time.

And just as I was contemplating that it couldn’t get any better, then we were announcing that we were going to be husband and wife, ready for life together.
Yes, April 16, 2003, is a day that will remain in my memory, but it only set the stage for what would happen 366 days later.

Because on that day, with all my doubts and baggage swept away, I became the other half of the one my Heavenly Father sent my way. And I’ll never be weak again. Eccles. 4:12 says that ‘though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves, and a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.’ And I believe those words. So as the two of us stay in His grace, then He will continue to place us on a plain higher than we could ever imagine. If we keep our hearts true , then he will continue to guide us safely through whatever we pursue, making us a success.

So with joy in our hearts, we take each other as counterparts and prepare to move on, not looking back at yesterday.
Hand in hand, as husband and wife, we promise before angels and men in God’s grace to always stay.
