Lost

by Bruce Alan Humphrey — Read all 55 poems by Bruce Alan Humphrey

A soul becomes lost in space and time.

Tuesday, December 16, 2025

 Lost

Torrents of rain splash into a black sea.

Over and over again, the drops are absorbed and disappear.

As if they were never there.

A tiny grain of dust floats in a bleak, heat-ravaged desert.

A fierce wind forces it through the air relentlessly.

It drifts, never resting, disappearing into a sea of heat and sand.

A flake of snow tears forward in a freezing blizzard.

It smashes against forest trees and hills over and over again.

Following its brothers, it rides the screaming wind, fading into nothing.

A single person in an ocean of people.

Pushing, shoving, and being shoved.

One person lost in a multitude of flesh.

A soul stands its ground.

A soul held together by its courage.

One soul that cherishes the world around it.
