Ode To Arrogance (Chant Royale)

by Charles Keller — Read all 159 poems by Charles Keller

A rant about our shameful president.

Saturday, November 11, 2006

Born to wealth and power without the need to try,
An empty shell in a vast, tumultuous sea.
Adept at arrogance and so inclined to tell the easy lie.
Born on third base, but it was a triple, thinks he.
Surrounded by incompetence, the serpents swim about
Basking in glory and power, their course never in doubt.
Angry, vicious monsters consuming honor and truth
Spewing vile words of fear and spreading the uncouth
Rhetoric which causes destruction and even death.
With no respect for heroes, so many lost in youth.
And fragile civil liberties are left gasping for a breath.

America forced to sing "Bye Bye Miss American Pie!"
They are chauffered as the people "Drive the Chevy to the levee."
But the levee washed away in the sweet by and by
As The Big Easy was swept away and consumed in a sea
Of empty promises. Incompetence and greed won out
As thousands of poor and desperate souls, to the heavens, shout!
To see the reason for it all one doesn't need a sleuth.
Their hearts are filled with greed and ruled by such untruth.
A Holy War based on lies, for Muslim's shibboleth.
In such an evil environment what suffers most is truth.
And fragile civil liberties are left gasping for a breath.

The disenfranchised numbers grow Oh, so very high.
American's divided by class, "you're different from me,"
Is what they preach and no matter how we try
The spies and wire taps abound from sea to shining sea.
It does no good to cry or wail or pout.
Absolute power for too long is what it's all about.
The "People" have become so desperate, even a half-truth
Is more than WE expect. Pitting the old against the youth
In an ultimate battle to the death
While only the poor must stop at the wealthy guy's toll booth.
And fragile civil liberties are left gasping for a breath.

A hundred watt bulb is needed to light the sky
Anything dimmer and it's so difficult to see
Reading properly requires enough light, Oh my
A forty watt brain is to dim for you and me.
Such limited illumination fills the poor with doubt
That HE can read so well or figure anything out.
Citizens hear words like "strategery." It makes them feel ruth
And when he says N-U-K-U-L-A-R, it just does not sound couth.
The world's fear increases each time he takes a breath
To speak. It's been so since his youth.
And fragile civil liberties are left gasping for a breath.

The administration which surrounds this inept guy
Are as incompetent and arrogant as he.
They fill the halls of power with hot air each time they lie.
The earth will be a safer place for everyone to see
When the current sweeps these serpent monsters out
of power. And then the world can talk about
Correcting all the errors. The poor of wealth and youth
Screaming from rooftops everywhere, "May we finally hear the truth?"
Maybe there will be an end to all this war and death.
The light will shine exposing them for the ultimate untruth.
And fragile civil liberties are left gasping for a breath.

Reserved in Hell there is a place as the devil sips Vermouth
To celebrate and welcome these minions who cannot tell the truth.
If there is justice in this world, the agony of death
Will lead them all to flames in the shape of a sawtooth.
And fragile civil liberties can finally catch their breath!

"CHANT ROYALE An elaborate fixed form of ballade in Old French poetry,
consisting of five stanzas of eleven lines with a refrain at the end of each
stanza, rhyming ababccddedE and an envoi of five lines rhyming ddedE.

Keith a friend of mine, say it just perfectly, but I will add, thank God that there are some of them left that can see the lies and where it leads to, and I have nothing but trepitations, and fears for a decent world if America succumbs to these new demigods, your last line "And fragile civil liberties are left gasping for a breath" is most apt, especially when ordinary poeple are exposed to a manufactured climate of fear, I just hope that your most very last line wins out! and with your help it should! Bravo! and may God be with you in Your Battle! Jasmin Horst P.S. I just read Michelle Close Mills review, and would like to add, which I wanted to do in the first place, you are one BRAVE writer!

I once heard Bob Dylan refrred to as 'The Voice of American Freedom'. After reading this and some of your other work Chuck, I think that American Freedom may have a new and powerful voice.

I'm going to send this to so many people who have given up on the US because of this evil administration, people who confuse decent, freedom loving, educated Americans with America's unfortunate global image.

Try 'The Lie'. You should find it consonant with your thoughts.

Blessings upon you and all those who would be free,

Keith

A poet that I can totally agree with! Only good thing he got to the presidency? It got him out of Texas! Is there any doubt that "money", and "debts" owed to daddy, got him in? That, and his being an easy puppet. No scholar, he!

You are one brave writer Chuck. You and the Dixie Chicks have got my undying admiration.

The thing that makes me crazed about this fool (aside from the fact that he STOLE the 2000 election from the real winner Al Gore who had more popular votes in Florida) is how all he has to say is that he's a Christian and that he prays...and the right wingers lined up behind him by the millions. Big deal. Retarded people pray too, but that doesn't make them Presidential. Fahrenheit 9-11, the documentary by Michael Moore is an eye opening walk through the minefield that this praying president has put in place. Shameful isn't even the word I'd use to describe this amoral putz. Having a conscience, I don't have a clue how he sleeps at night knowing the sacrifices that our military and their families are making every day to make sure that he and his oil baron cronies get richer and richer...By the way did you notice that we aren't even fighting the war on terror in the correct country? The last I heard, Osama didn't even LIVE in Iraq. It was Afghanistan or Pakistan. Gads. Your rant is a highly commendable piece of work Chuck. Blessings, Michelle
