Love Decision

Love is a force that doesn't always stay conveniently in the bottom of the bowl.

You say that love

is a decision,

and not an emotion,

not a wild

and overwhelming thing.

But you never

felt her touch

or the warmth

of her smile

even when the cold rain falls.

No, you never

smelled her hair,

or put your cheek

against her cheek,

or longed for her

from far away

even in life’s shortened hours.

So, if you ask me

to decide,

I’ll tell you love is patient,

love is kind,

it’s a force,

like iron against the earth.

Love thwarts the goad,

and skips the wart.

It bids the illness go.

Even when I cannot move,

it moves me to decide

that love is made for me,

and you are right,

it’s done in sanity.

destiny there is, I found it in an old school friend whom wasn't even a friend to me in 1962. He is so into my life now, it is amazing how we can relate now when we couldnt in H.S.

You have delightfully touched my heart with this beautiful piece, Jerry. I can relate a hundred percent. For me, it would be better to wear my heart out on my sleeves than have a mind that intelligently thinks because by being so, i need not decide for it is already there for all to see. The heart has the purest of all languages. Best wishes.

Love,
Sheri

Love your play on words at the end. Love can move mountains and perform miracles and heal hearts.

I completely agree with your perspective on love, Jerry. It is truly a force to be reckoned with and I think those who claim not to know this are in denial... ...or they are sadly lacking. Love and peace to you,

Regis

"It bids the illness go" is my favorite line in this wonderfully touching poem. It feels young and fresh like the love that moves through bones of any age.

I like this one Jerry,

"I’ll tell you love is patient,
love is kind,
it’s a force,
like iron against the earth."

Jerry all I can say is Amen, and the poem does it justice, love carries on, and there are no victims of lost love, only losers, I can see here you are certainly not a victim, no matter how legitimate longing is. Bless you! Jasmin Horst
