Poem Artwork

Oreo Oreo

Oreo Oreo -

Where art thou?

My mouth waters,

When one remembers youth,

Adrift an Oreo dream filling,

Such a delicious American crème.

Oreo Oreo -

Oh my, the rising Tide of senior prices,

Now Brand Names, become luxury items,

One remembers using - as young adults

Grabbing a hand full in, “I Have A Dream.”*

Oreo Oreo -

Where is that long ago cookie coupon -

That sale memory from 50 years ago?

Can you feel the ole Rock ‘n Roll Freedom?

Able to choose 35-cent McDonald burgers.

Gas, way under a dollar a gallon economy.

Oreo Oreo -

Sharing a big glass of cold, cold Lawson milk.

Lawson’s gone along with old Revco neighborhoods.

Today Wal-Mart’s have replaced Woolworth’s, Oneil’s.

Tomorrow Amazon seeks to command America’s future,

Where Oreo’s will probably stay - but Twinkie’s will go.

Oreo Oreo –

The American dream of twisting Oreo crème falters.

One has become generic aloft Social Security welfare.

Nabisco was absorbed into Phillip Morris into Kraft

Finally going global as Mondelez International and beyond,

That in acquisitions Oreo’s pay higher CEO salaries.

Oreo Oreo –

We shall overcome, is now about those - who rule the world.

That power trumps those, who want and need - an Oreo coupon.

Where now American dreams - is not having any Oreo crème filling.

Today one pays generic prices that need retirement bank loans,

That now Oreo’s manufacturers make millions off Food Stamps.

Oreo Oreo –

Please put one in my coffin alongside a Lawson Milk Glass Jug.

That somehow America’s Draft has overcome this Vietnam Vet.

For Veterans do not hold a bully trump card, as an Free Verse America Poet

That life in America is all about the Termination of Oreo Poetry.

A great way to use the Oreo to bring attention to mergers that are creating bigger and bigger monopolies making more and more money while inflating the price of something as simple and American as the Oreo cookie, so revered for its marriage of black-and-white in sweet cream and chalky chocolate. Yummy!

A couple og years ago David I would have thought Oreo Oreo was a Baltimore football supporters chant or something, but they've recently had a big marketing campaign in UK. I still haven't tried one, but my grand daughter will wear me down one day. I keep telling her that not eating sugary snacks is what keeps me looking young. Then her Nana tells her it isn't that, it's hair dye.

Good poem, it reminded me of Wagon Wheels, a favourite of mine that seem to have become a lot smaller since I was ten.
