Birthday's Livelong Voyage

by David Lester Young — Read all 1,103 poems by David Lester Young

Once the top heavy grain falls tick to tock, for short awhile, thy will become bottom heavy, till the very last tock stop watch.

Birthday's Livelong Voyage

Eye wander, alight morrow’s wasteland journey,

Mind wondering past ages, adrift time traversals.

Well-worn depth, cuts mend, Grand Canyon deep,

Channeling perplexity, awash torrential downpours.

Convexity balloons, bearing bulges ahead, outward,

Amidst wayward void, fill in quick, amid hourglass sand.

Around the round arms, tick loves, tock taketh away,

Emotions slip sliding, dew drowns in trenches, curst thirst.

Dearth thou breaketh bread, amid sorrow sown eyed - torn tears,

Lock back, to what was, being no-more, amongst dwindling years.

Too Bee a sting, of time’s asp, slithering away, down-stream pours,

Thy hour glass, bottom heavy, awaits pendulum, final swung door.

Trails not taken, shorn steep, amid razor edge, harp strung cuttings,

Dye feels hollow, to fallow petrified seed, to see-swallow stain desolation.

Wherein grains, dew fall pray, fingers down clasp, taunt tight, forget me -

Naught approaches existence, to bare one’s final resting sentence period.

Where a birthday livelong voyage, closes its book, amid an graven mark date.

I really love your wordsmithing in this one and the final conclusion carved on a gravestone reminds me of the one I looked up yesterday. Yes birthdays do mark the spot of our lives.
