Pawn Of Time

by David Lester Young — Read all 1,103 poems by David Lester Young

After serving America in 1966-70, I wrote on napkins venting and ranting for therapy and to get things troubling me inside out. That way I could cope with things better. I found that America and and elite society, did not want Veterans to show what goes on, when one serves one's country. There is a change from the first day to the last being American soldiers that as we become Veterans, we need napkins.

Poem Artwork

Pawn Of Time

Family tree planting anew seedling sprout serf
Conception to graduation stepping stones to war
Parent nurtured, teacher motivated youth stimulus
Creation for social pecking order, stratified status Draft.

Whitewash bleach blight bobbles ocean current corks
Chest game of war Draft innocence, into vast quagmires
No bone spur, nor deformity, pawn lacking elite wealth
Chest of Time goes off to serve their country as war wraith.

RIP tides, bare body bags, filled in, limp part pieces, going home.
Elicit Politicians saying, we need troops, here, there, Overseas
Conflict Theaters: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, ‘n more
For ever and more Washington says, We need more bodies (bags).

Take this hill, retreat, take it back, upchuck - repeat convulsions
Dragon spooky, do reign down, flaming tracer bullets - retribution
Wartime changes people, even not on - front line confrontations
Soldiers become Veterans, having issues, needing mending, fixing.

Pawn of Time, played on by vile Politicians, who volunteer serf victims
Officials, who never serve, then ask for troops here, there, every where
Overseas deployment, after deployments, doing what - they are told.
Advance, retreat indecisions like April 30, leaving Vietnam and allies.

Pawn of repeating Time in Iraq, Afghanistan, then asked to go into Syria
Advance, retreat indecisions like October 6, leaving Syria and another ally
Promises made, broken: time again new promises broken: again and again
Wherein Pawns be human dependable: thus becoming human expendable.

RIP the pieces torn apart limbs here, arms over there, eyes are some where
Humpty Dumpty, scattered pieces of warriors, come home, amid PSTD trauma
Thank You For Your Service.” Void devoid, pivot divots amidst Fake Politician
Forked Tongue’s, who have long made hollow caste humanity cast - untouchables.

Pick a victim, exploit them, take away civil liberties, vilify, demean, chastise - hate
Bigotry fuels segregation, humiliation, to build internment camp concentrations
Smell the rotting flesh stocked high as human waste that await mass pit burials
Repugnant aroma burning malnourished, tortured corpse pyres - must be Armageddon.

Neigh said the Night Mare, just another “Pawn Of Time.”

No doubt, David! If the white house wants these "war" ways to settle a dispute, why doesn't the white house people don uniforms and go fight for it?????? Oh, "they" piss me off!!

Love ya!
