Contrasts

by David Lester Young — Read all 1,103 poems by David Lester Young

This poem wandereed off a bit, and I was even surprised when it trailed off to, but in Constracts life does take interesting journeys.

When America puts one in a room, womb, tomb, a lone like if a Chinese Democracy poet; in order to survive, one must create contrasts.

Contrasts

Shadows bear time, shades bare rhyme
Past present presence tears, contrasts years
Midnight jester yoke, ponders morrow future
Split second before path, after math sets stains.

Yesterday’s sandcastle, be flattened smooth
Pendulum metronome, stuck mid teeter totters
Balances equal north, south season equators
Where cold winters, whilst other heat summers.

Do you write upon, livid contrast dreams
That polish lucid, onto vanishing creams.
Pin pricks fill voids, that crack open, over rhyme
Fresh coat, peels Home Sweet Home, over time.

Dost, what one makes in contrast, will wilt away
Spring brilliance, will dull lackluster, in fall leaves
Using Fountain of Youth cosmetics cover, we make up
Dost to dust, using Ole English, knots bring back Camelot.

Oh Camelot, my Camelot. Where art thou Sir Lancelot
Oh Knight, dew night contrast days, mid Sherwood Forest eaves
How once upon lark fork tune, contrasts wish I were troubadour
Reveling mid folklore fairy tales, dost voids, contrast music sighs.

Oh wind, dew naught, ripple waters, a midst tempest disturbing time
Oh thunder, do not crack thy stillness that comforts thee soul’s spirit
Oh lightning, do not crack dye whip, thundering tempestuous clouds
Oh rain, dye deluge flooding reign, contrasts time, over rhyme tranquility.

Thee poet will forest back the morrow, to dream mid reflective mirrors
Pooling baptismal cleansing pond ring insight, baring foresight future’s contrast.

You do diverge a bit in the middle to wander back into Camelot, those glorious medieval days made famous by Shakespeare and many others that were really quite cruel and difficult for hard-working subjects of the realm. Or, better, the heady days of the Kennedy administration were all things seem possible until the music died.
