Petrified Terrain

by David Lester Young — Read all 1,103 poems by David Lester Young

Been in never neverland wasteland, amid grey on gray words, bleached over, by whitewash memory coating blanks, open void blank, in cerebral cortex spaces.

From Dusk To Dawn We Hear
"Who."
Prayeth The Owl.
"Who Am Eye"
Sayeth The Poet
Upon the morning light ~
Insight Perception Reception.

Thy words dew stain Petrified Terrain

Petrified Terrain

Gray groans,
grey grains,
fertile futile,
frozen rigid frigid
Cold chill reign,
terrain fraught cascade,
castrates shallows fallow
Shadows shrill contrasted,
amid stone face
petrified chiseled knots
Draught hostile wasteland,
void-bit,
vexation negated irritation.

Deep freeze,
crisp moonless thoughts,
starlight quivers
insight vistas
Earthen jagged,
be crevasses,
still worn
born torn,
butt as abutments
Temple forlorn refrains
echo alone,
Nautical knots -
whisper wisp wry
Umbilical Frost
tall tale winds -
exhaust pale,
coyote howl -
night-n-gale.

Deaf defanged -
still nest smothers
muted deafened
spoofing sound
Wraith split tongue
venom dwells motion-less,
frozen stare
steel snare
Caught mid-sentence
existence,
dost balance teeter totter’s
depth perception
Whom am I naught,
knocks eye would bee;
echo -
nothing back-ward,
cries lone.

Whimper naught,
paling sod feelings,
flailing diminished,
lapse sought - less
Memories knot hole voids,
fills in hollow caste,
mid untouchable recollections
Alone stationary,
isolated blank-stare,
seeks to fill-in cross-word
di-verse devoid
How dost one start,
being invisible -
mid greys on grays,
bleached into white wash -
Paged ages.

"Who."
Prayeth The Owl.
"Eye."

Sayeth The Poet.

Methinks, David Lester Young, the petrified land is merely a canvass - a metaphor - upon which you besmirch indelible colours indistinguishable from the barbed thoughts - for example:

"Memories knot hole voids,
fills in hollow caste,
mid untouchable recollections/.../How dost one start,
being invisible -
mid greys on grays,
bleached into white wash -"

Just one of the several kicks you indulge in, in one poem. Difficult homework for the apprentice reader.

A very wordsmithy depiction of what seems to be barren canyon lands that are actually teeming with life if you look in the right places.
