Veterans weathering
war transition
onto peacetime
Military service
trauma transference -
civilian PTSD
Needing vessels,
to transmit angst,
without violence
Building up
deep down depressions,
inside turmoil
What is inside,
must come out,
without self-destruction.

How do Veterans
accomplice this,
without self-imploding
Take a napkin,
or peace of paper,
onto pen felt
wrought stains
Let the vile
venom flow,
bearing dye
consonant vowels
Impregnating characters,
bye letting loose
volatile hostility
Do not share outburst,
unless you are comfortable
doing so.

Now comes the decision,
to shred it into pieces -
burn it up
Lock it among
skeletal keys
safety deposit box –
or share it
Knowing it will not
harm anyone else,
or haunt your future
No one else has seen
this yet,
so your safety net
is secure
You have not
hurt anybody,
or said anything -
you would regret.

Time Out -
breath in and chill,
you have vented
Veteran angst
By starting healing process,
by letting skeletal fingers -
tap dance
Flame allowing smoke,
to arise upward,
for heaven’s redemption
Pieces torn up so small,
they seem to disappear
for short while
Open up deposit box,
baring private notes,
with dates on them.

Being brave and
share them,
with other Veterans -
sharing problems
Who are having problem
adjusting to civilian life,
in VA group sessions
Veterans are this
extended family,
who served our country
in Pure Pride
We are the pawns,
who are used
to play endless
Chess War Games
Coming home alive,
if lucky
and upon being
discharged become -
