Surrender

by David Lester Young — Read all 1,103 poems by David Lester Young

There are principles, we never Surrender, even when, we are born, as pawns of war, preying dominoes falling pieces.

What war taketh away, seldom can be rebuilt, for what passes bye, cannot be reclaimed, in should, would, could of aftermath carnage, waging war be this Chess Game of another person's One Man One Party vanity.

Sometimes, Our Poet Tree Determination, must split the boulder, within our words place setting.

Surrender

The wind blows
a lone victim cry
Petrified within placemat
still setting
Silent bee,
naught to be
wrought heard
Fallow the leader
prone puppet shackle.

Subservient subject
human matter smatter
Led by Master Caste
as expendable excrement
Trash to be fuddled
pondered slave carnage
Led to slaughter,
war pawns
prey dominoes.

Lost words
compost tear torn,
a part -
worn out
Shredded remnants
lay in bit -
scattered pieces
Mildew molded spores
trailing Poetry limb less
Skeletal fingers pit
animal cracker jack patterns

Thank You
For Your Service,
Pot hole dung
dug spaces
Create cavity
demented verbiage,
ferments for ever more
Dawns nightmare PTSD -
Poet Terrain Stressed Depositions
Wherein the Love of Humanity,
We never –
Surrender.

Oh, my! Your words ring of truism powerfully, David. Sad that it's all true. Write on!

Love ya!

We never surrender while we send our young, naïve expendables into the hell that is what war really is where they don't know when it's coming but they know that it is coming because it is all around them and there is a number on their forehead telling when their time is up.

But if they do get over their hell after nobody surrenders, but gives up, they still face the nightmares that continue long after that other war is long gone.
