As Close As Your Next Breath

Poem Artwork

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i don’t need you to smother me
all i need is to know you are there
you care about my joys and sorrows
you would hold me close...if you could
i like my own company, i’ve kept it for years
i like myself and seldom disagree with me
i don’t need you to hold my hand
and hover over me every moment
but i’ll welcome with elation each opportunity
we have to turn solitude into togetherness
i don’t have to know where you are
or what you are doing each minute
but i will be as close to you Sweet Love
as your next breath, my aura as comforting
and familiar as your own heartbeat
my love as real as your own flesh
there will be no need for dissention
secure in love, you live your life, i live mine
there will be no accomplishment so high
i won’t encourage you to reach for it
and no sorrow so hideous you can’t lay it
to rest in the soft bed of my heart
i will give you my love, my trust
all i am, in exchange for all you are
and there will be no smothering
or enforced rules of what constitutes love
for we will be living love, each day
near or far, here or there we will be
two candles... one light
Belle,
That is pure, unselfish, non-smothering love. That's when you know it's real. "You Light Up My Life." One of my favorites; I guess I'm just an old romantic. (lol)
