Come Walk With Me

come Dear Heart, walk with me
my arm snuggly entwined with yours
past fragrant honeysuckle vines
that line the Santee’s shores
inhale gardenia and magnolia too
this graceful world is ours
there’s no one here but me and you
basket packed with fried chicken
potato salad, biscuits and iced tea
forget yesterday’s heartaches
today’s joy belongs to you and me
let’s sing the old songs of Dixie
as in cold river water we dangle feet
sing “Swanee River,” “Ole Kentucky Home”
“Carry Me Back To Ole Virginy” so sweet
tell me about your many bloody battles
and the scars yet borne on your soul
I will listen and blend my tears with yours
we are timeless and will never grow old
I will tell you tall tales of other times
as the long sunny day away we while
you will feel alive again as love brings a smile

Touching and beautiful. Helping one "forget yesterday's heartaches" is a fine way to spend the day.
I love the give and take by the two of you, and the singing of songs of the South. Wonderful poem.
...such beautiful wishes in pen...can only hope the song of remembrance in these words...might travel fast to ones Colonel...to be read in a garden of light.

Ah, the southern belle and her gentleman caller, what a lovely photograph! The gardenia was my mother's favorite flower of choice. We had them in the home religiously. Such beauty in your carefully chosen words....
