Destitute of sunlight a twilight sky
She croons her poignant melody
Notes sweeter than a violin’s cry
She sings her song only for thee
She enlightens the darkness well
With sweet supremacy of her song
Forgotten sagas olden ballads tell
Capture the waiting heart ere long
For beauty dwells in her soft sorrow
And love trails the notes of her call
Yesterday’s promise of the morrow
Make trials of today seem but small
Nightingale fills an empty vessel up
With wine poured from her bitter cup
Silent moon stands sill in the abyss
Of endless obscurity far up above
Mere mortal man longs for one kiss
From the singer’s gentle lips of love
Silver stars revolve round his yearning
As sensual song sets his soul aflame
With searing fire of lost love’s burning
For the nightingale with ancient name
And so he listens with ears attuned
To the covert message of her melody
Pledge of devotion eternally assumed
Between eyes they never shall see
In mutual bond of truth, lives no wrong
So she holds him in the arms of her song
For whom that nightingale sings? perhaps to night craziness or to empty her little vessel from so much longing?
But from that trees...not a disturbing whisper.
