My Distant Bouquet

life played an ironic trick on us
knowing somehow
we would cross paths again

fate waited
until there was no hope....ever
of a voice, a touch

except in memory
of times
when touches were unlimited
and voices blended
in tones of passion

life is cruel to lovers
they touch only a brief moment
then ache for centuries
to blend again

and now
paths converge
too distant to merge

drab existances we must finish
with only memories
of other lifetimes infused with color

we are gentle helping hands
stretched across endless seas
of wasted time

distant bouquets
destined to offer sweet scent
above the stench of reality

joined together eternally
still deeply inhaling
the soul breath of each other

loving eyes that yet envision
what they can no longer see

we meet on the cusp of dreams
where memory has not failed us

where sardonic time laughs
and blessed immortality waits

for the end of another long good bye
on the journey to a brief new hello
