A Sensual Sonnet


My Lord, you cannot possibly require
Lady’s concession to passion base
Nor yet aspire to cultivate and inspire
Her romantic urges with such poor taste
Oh no, not one kiss shalt thou gather
Not one lace shall become thy spoil
To lay with you? Why, I’d surely rather
Be a peasant and in foul fields to toil
I shall not gift so much as simple smile
To proud rogue convinced he can bed me
I’ve not been a naive ingénue in a while
If a man would bed me, he must wed me
Sir. I think you to be most impertinent
And quite overbearing in licentious intent


My Lord, my cloak has disappeared
And the satin slippers from my feet
Resolve greatly weakened as I feared
By kisses on bare shoulders so sweet
My pillaged corset captive fallen now
To the prowess of such persuasion bold
And methinks I lack all knowledge of how
To deny such heat in iced Winter’s cold
Thy lips are those of a conqueror true
Sizeable sword cast to fill up a sheath
The Lady blissfully surrenders to you
As with pleasure she weeps beneath
For alas, I am both undressed, undone
Constrained to admit, thou art the one
