The World Laughs At Poets
By La Belle Rouge

the scent of love, that’s what you are to me
a mixture of spices and sunlight in your hair
moist peppermint kisses on winter-dried lips
fingertips familiar with each secret pathway
in the well traveled terrain of my tingling skin

the world laughs at poets, depths of desire
and heights of passion unknown to most men
language adorned with simile and metaphor
the world mocks what it cannot understand
and belittles the red stain of blood on a page

let them laugh, what does it matter to those
who find solace in sonnets, pleasure in verse?
why should their laughter disturb purveyors
of intimate delights felt only by such mystics
and lovers who hold nothing back of the soul?

the scent of love, sweet flavor of yearning
sated at midnight, that’s what you are to me
a thousand nights, a thousand miles spanned
with wet words conveyed from your tongue
crafting within my mouth the language of love

Flawless are your words and sentiments here as always, Belle. Such effortlessness in the flow of your thoughts and lines that ooze eternal romance of heart, soul and mind. You are truly omnipotent in this genre. Never has the world's laughter and scorn seemed so sweet. Hope 2012 brings you all the happiness and satisfaction your longing soul deserves. Love always, Kate xx

Excellent setiment and thought reflecting on the nature of poets and the detached perceptions the world considers upon them ... strangely, there are many wannabe poets, who through their own inadequate poetic being, scorns and ridicules those poets they cannot connect to ...

The first stanza is stunning, just spiritual. No poets are envied. Just saying. Great work Belle. You soared in this one.

"... the world laughs at poets, depths of desire and heights of passion unknown to most men..." and unappreciated by those to whom it is unknown. I agree, "... let them laugh..."

Belle, this is so insightful. WORLDCLASS!! Thanks Dick
