But for the grace of you...go I
.........................................................................
You Believed In Me ……………………………………………………………………
Breath of honesty Brushed the side of My neck…first time I held your hungry body… Tight against mine.
Such a contradiction Stood before me… Between what I felt And thought…with Mind clashing against Heart.
I wanted to believe What I heard my heart Speaking…but feared To trust with abandonment… One more time, Those before you Had cost me dearly.
With a grain of salt… I proceeded cautiously, The consistent proof… Of your word of truth, Laid a foundation of Trust…where I began To build again.
There were times, While watching your Every move…I found myself Waiting for you to stumble… As if to put your love, To the test.
From the outside…those Observing and trusting, Encouraged me to drop Hardened guard to the Ground…leaving it behind… To rust in the past.
Fear held a chokehold On my heart, Restricting it from filling With the joy of your love…
When life hit hard… When I stumbled and fell, And opportunists beat Me with sticks pulled From the timber of greed…
You rushed to my side… Defending me…wiped the Blood from my eyes… And the tears from my heart. Slowly you nurtured me Back to health.
When cold of failure, Found me in the darkness Of night… Robbing sleep and confidence… You shined your light, Showing truth of my worth.
You dusted me off… And polished me clean, Then held a mirror before Me…enabling me to see, That which had never Left me.
It would have been so Easy…to allow the pull Of gravity, To continue to draw me, Into the tailspin of death… Waiting to devour me. You refused to let me fall.
Standing tall and right Sized…but humble… With snap of confidence Returned to my stride… I take each step In the light of your love… Stronger now than ever…
Beautiful poem Erin. Isn't it strange how often we musr be willing to see outselves through another's eyes in order to realize our worth...even when the only worth that matters is self to the owner of those looking glass eyes.
