Sunshine Would Sound Like This
Sunshine comes crashing, smashing through my window.
Rays pounding my heart
Through windows open or closed
Or when there are no windows at all
You still keep shining away.
Your voice like sunshine, shining away, reminding me
Always
Of who I can be and what I could become.
Even when I don’t wanna hear it,
There you are.
Your voice crashes through my eardrums
And shines into my mind.
No foster grants can keep it out completely.
Not even the stuff that the space shuttle was made from
Can block out the sun.
Even when it’s nighttime,
There you sit, shining away,
Reminding me that I matter.
I can never again forget
Or pretend that I don’t know.
You make me admit
Who I can be and what I am capable of.
In your warmth, people sprout, blossom and bloom,
Branches growing longer, stronger,
Leaves unfurling, uncurling, to catch your rays.
You shine on every instance
Every step
Every getting out of bed
Every morning.
You transform every action into an occasion for rejoicing.
Shining away
On every mistake,
Soothing every bruise, tending every wound.
Your voice, like sunshine, always says
“You can do it”.
Your voice, like sunshine, never says
“I told you so”.
Inside every seed,
There is a tree, nestling, sleeping, tucked away,
Waiting to stand tall and proud,
Waiting for the sun.
