A Lost and Shattered Love
djbeaulieu
My heart shattered into a maze of disbelief.
I’m neither dead nor alive, no harm can I do --
paralyzed by the anguish of my loved-one’s curse.
No mercy, no peace, no relief, just self perpetuating ridicule.
Like the Ancient Mariner I die of thirst –
for love has dealt me a crippling blow
pronouncing me the symbol, “scornful man,”
I’m the stereotype of the demeaning men in my lady’s life.
I searched her eyes for another chance.
But -- not to be, for I had touched her painful past too deeply;
tearfully, she sent me into the chilly, condemning cold of the night
to dance the dance of infamy.
The sharpness of winter’s cold strains my imperfect soul.
But, I must pay the price for failing her faithful trust.
The destruction of a tantalizing love that turned stone-cold.
God forgave me, but other transformational trials, I’m sure, will unfold
to help me grow.
I’ll love again, someday, but I’ll be wiser when love, again, unfolds.
