Terrible Fate!
While listening to the news the other night on crime,
A story of a son and mother came vividly to mind.
The son took his mother's life without a second thought,
And never once looked back at what terror he had wrought.
She gave this child life, proudly watched this child grow.
And sat up many nights, when he was feeling low.
Often worried so about him, when he was sad or late.
Never foreseeing what laid ahead, this terrible tragic fate.
I'm sure she wasn't perfect, and she blundered quite a lot.
Immaterial of her mistakes, she didn't deserve what life brought.
What is happening to our children, when did things go so wrong?
Why didn't anyone see it coming, and why is it taking much too long?
Her son will have 'til the end of time, to live with choices he had made.
Existing in a cell alone, eradicating everyone, and feeling much afraid.
Where are those pals now he listened to, that were his bosom chums?
No one comes, no calls, no one cares, not one of all those bums.
He tried to impress those guys, in everyway he could.
Ditching school, lying to Mom, being anything but good.
How ironic really, because no matter what he's done,
His mother would have forgiven him, because he was her son.
He took the life of the only one, which would have stood by his side,
The one that would have listened, trying to urge him to confide.
She never would have abandoned him; she'd have loved him to the end.
She wasn't just his mother, but she was also his best friend.

Heartbreaking write!
The Bible says it best: train up a child in the way he should go, and he will not depart from it. Trouble is, we've taken prayer out of school (especially if you're a Christian) and discipline out of the home. No wonder our children are rebelling in heinous ways! No respect for authority any more. That's why the Terrible Fate...in a way, we've ourselves to blame for not standing up for our rights and saying, "NO MORE!" Powerfully penned sadness, Bonnie, well done.
