First & Last!

When you least expect a special gift, one happens to come your way.
Something so bright and wonderful that truly makes your day.
You hold on tight to what you know has surely come from God,
And you keep it very close at heart to feel his special love.

The gift he sent this time, lifted me higher than ever before,
It gave me warmth and tenderness and oh yes, so much more.
He has sent me many treasures along my troubled past.
But the gift he sent me this time was to be my first and last.

The gift he gave me this time was one I had before,
Not knowing then it came from God I mistakenly shut the door.
But I know this time how precious his special gift will be,
It will heal my heart with love and cleanse all pain from me.

The gift I just received was the heart of my first love,
The first time he sent it, I didn’t know it was from above.
I let it go with much regret and even then it didn’t make sense.
But now I’ll hold on forever, ‘cause the pain before was so intense.

Thank you God for resending the gift you had sent before.
Giving me the chance to see what great things life has in store.
I will cherish this love forever and not let one day go by.
Without saying I love you until the day I die.
