In my life of many beautiful roses, there were a few thorns. This is the story of one of them.

Uncle Manny’s Farm

Oh, how I loathed going to Uncle Manny’s farm.
Every time we visited, it caused me such alarm.
Uncle Manny was so scary, nasty and mean.
He had a harsh voice; he was tall, dark and lean.

He told us bloodcurdling stories about his old bull.
Told us his bull would devour us until it was full.
I stayed far away from that old bull in the barn,
Finding other adventures on Uncle Manny’s farm.

His son was just as nasty and he petrified me too.
He was a big bully and he’d take things from you.
He wanted my sailors hat that my daddy bought me.
I wanted to keep my hat so I hid behind a willow tree.

But the bully soon found me there and took away my hat.
Called me awful names like little baby and brat.
I was crying hard when Uncle Manny showed up.
“Stop all the howling,” he said quite abrupt.

“If you don’t stop that wailing, I’ll feed you to my bull.”
Which made me cry harder, for he was so cruel.
He grabbed me by the arm and marched me to the barn.
Where the old bull was waiting, to cause me bodily harm.

Uncle Manny thrust me inside and then shut the door.
It was only a few minutes but it seemed like much more.
I saw the mean huge bull locked behind a rickety gate,
With fire in his eyes, I was scared & uncertain about my fate.

I heard a lot of yellin’ and screamin’ outside.
It was my daddy’s voice I heard, “Daddy!” I cried.

The door flung open, Uncle Manny was on the ground.
His lip was bleeding and everyone else was standing around.
Daddy gently carried me to the car and that was that.
Daddy disappeared for a second and returned with my hat.
