Never to be “We”

How well we know that we,

you and me can never be...

“we.”

The time between the many years

that separate us.

The difference between the many miles

that separate us.

From east to west.

From my side of the country

to your side of the country.

Your family there, to the east.

My family here, to the west.

Those you love there.

Those that need you,

those you "care" for there.

The man you sleep next to,

that you do not love, there. 

Those I love here.

The empty half of my bed,

that we both know, spiritually,

belongs to you, alongside me, here.

How sad that we...

we,

you and me,

we, that love one the other,

though we should be “we”,

can never,

or ever will be,

 “we.”
