Musty Letters

Reading musty letters from

years long gone,

my heart fills with sadness

for though we’d both agreed

those many years ago

though we’d both agreed

it best to stop conversation,

conversation

that did little more than

add to our loneliness

for each the other,

to stop conversation

that did little more than

add to our longing

for each the other,

to stop conversation

that added to the

knowledge of the

futility of our love.

Still...

though I know this would

open narrowly  healed

wounds of heavyheartedness,

still...

even though many years have passed

I so want to write

I so want her to write

I so want to know she is well,

I so want to speak of love

for me that has not died,

I so want my lady to speak

If still alive,

I so want my lady to speak

of love ,

of my lady’s love for me that has not yet died..

Still...

still I know it best,

best

to just let love lie,

...and one day

maybe

...one day to die.

Those musty letters will always bring back memories. They say time heals all wounds...I don't know if that is always true. I know it hurts when it is gone. I would want closure and to know if they were still alive. I know you are happy now with your lady but old wounds can still pop up from time to time. Your friend, ~Chessly

I am guilty of letting old friendships wither due purely to my own laziness under the guise of being too busy with my work schedule. No excuse and as the years pass and addresses change..shame on me. Patrick

When it comes to love, some hurts never heal; that is why I do not agree with those who claim that "time heals all wounds." Thanks for sharing this compelling write, Mark. Love and peace,

Regis

A sad lament to being lonely, but sometimes a clean break is best for all no matter the hurt. Well written, Mark

A depth of emotion in this piece so well expressed, Mark. Surely she must be thinking the same things even though so many years have passed...there is that connection that can not be severed. Beautifully done! Your friend, Lizzie
