Band of Gold
Nearing six months:
Days from the anniversary
Of six months of marriage
And though we’ve known each other
For many years before,
And though we’d lived together
For a time before,
Commitment now
Marriage now
The loving bind,
The loving tie that ties us,
Bonnie and me,
As something else,
As something other than the love
We shared as merely a man and a woman
The bind as the band upon her finger
Ties us in a way that merely
Being together,
That merely loving
Each the other,
That merely being close,
The band of gold
That says to her,
That says to me,
Committed
We are as one,
We are truly as one.
Our lives,
As she approaching sixty-nine
As I approaching seventy-nine,
For as she lies,
Her head upon a pillow
The lines erase from her face
And the glow of the beauty
Of the woman I see beneath me
Is not one of years but one of love.
The love we share has become a God given commitment
The love we share has become a committed choice.
Love for Bonnie,
Love for me
Is bound within the love of our commitment,
Within the commitment of our love
Within the commitment
of the band of gold upon her finger.

I have read an exquisite poem of sublime romance. "Band of Gold" glows on constellation Love.

I'm afraid the band of gold, and the diamond ring of engagement are merely the commercial exploitation of rituals that are so old that they began with wreaths of flowers and a stem of grass wrapped around the finger.

This is a beautiful poem about elder love and how to appreciate the years you and Bonnie have known each other. The flow and the sentiments are achingly tender in this work of love that you have created within your loving heart and mind. A 5 star "keeper", my friend.
