Culture Rot

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

As a departure from my norm, this is a Slam I performed a while back based on some observations:-- Modern man just doesn't seem to know when to stop. On stage, it seemed to have worked. I'd appreciate your thoughts as to how it reads on paper.

CULTURE ROT -- FOR DUDES AND SIRS

            Look into the set

                 Yah, the TV set

                      Black, white, uh, huh

Ridin' the Grayline with a pinch of color.

CULTURE ROT

            Oozing from the media

                 Blasting into our living rooms

                        With trite reporting and creations

                                    To do what?

CONTROL YOU, DUDE, SIR!

So, where are you in your climb into the Culture Rot?

                        Caught you yet?

                                    Tugged on your soul yet?

                                                Drowned you yet?

Don't worry... some resist it longer, but...

CULTURE ROT, DUDE, SIR,

Is here now in your hair,

                        Under your fingernails,

                                    Hiding in your morning breath

                                                Urine and Stool deposits

                                                          Yeah, it's here because...

CULTURE ROT, DUDE, SIR

You made with your own two hands.

So, let's run.  Yeah, you and me.

                                 "Where to?" you say.

How about across the broken sidewalks of yesterday's clean air

                                    OR

Through the forests of tomorrow with+ 500db of MP3 that drowns the                                           squirrel's petite munching of a Central Park acorn

                                   OR

Atop a mound where once was heard the gentle whooosh of a snow goose landing on fresh fallen snow, that now is shattered by the snowmobile's acrid regurgitation -- the perks of corrupt business  triumphs lobbied by polluted politicians to create even greater contributions to... you got it...

CULTURE ROT, DUDE, SIR

And oh, lest we be PI

YOUR CULTURE ROT TOO, DUDETTES AND LADIES
