Freezer Burn

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Love's attempt to preserve itself sometimes goes wrong, especially when it senses its appreciation to be only object oriented. Fortunately, some of us understand that and can move on beyond the seduction.

Freezer Burn

How gently we savor love's hors d'oeuvres
Knowing not
Even in reserved bites
Appetites can rise
Luring satiation into unguarded repose
While senses become numbed
To imbibing's gentle seduction

How alarmed we become
Of following dawns
Where spoilage avoided
Turns to freezer burn
Amidst honest intention

Still

We avoid ignorance remedied
Patience not yet respected

With love, I think there's perhaps patience/constraint/good taste and there's also a wilful withholding sometimes which can amount to denial to both self and our desired other; is such restraint respect or an abject stoicism, I wonder? Such freezer burn, even with honest intention, seems to me sad... Love, like food, is so much better fresh, after all... it's the leftovers we freeze! :)) I tried to read this carefully, but I still may have missed a lemon twist somewhere. Tasty, thoughtful writing, Odin, thank you. Kate xx

Wonderful little allegory. We can live without love, unhappily, I admit. However, we cannot live without food and its seduction can sometimes overwhelm us.

Patience is needed. But, trying to preserve someting that is an instant delight is foolish too. Enjoy it while you can , party is over. enjoyed. ~ Morgan
