Night Web

For some, dreams remain the quintessential puzzles in self-realization.

Thursday, October 11, 2012

Night Web

old addresses hang suspended
a cross hatched menagerie
bewildering his eyes
so much night
so little day

bed partners scurry
ghost bugs visit the kitchen
as he spreads peanut butter and jelly
readying another day of anonymity

unforgiving dreams
he pays for with exhaustion
fingering unopened candy
as he buys one movie ticket
but slips into two theaters

he

super hero
full of delusions
standing amid clouds
cold
disbelieving
peering through mist at his screen
grainy images becoming frozen
as the projector's gate awaits
the burning bulb of reality accommodating
melting his images hollow
leaving only a searing light

he has no sound to utter
he ponders reason
unmitigated joy announces silently
it's over

awake now
restlessness abated
night becomes day
behind his closed lids

There are some nights i don't have time to dream let alone sleep but, that too is a product of overthinking. Sometimes you have to say to yourself I just can't take care of everything....

The last three lines of the third stanza are laden with saddness to me.
