Final Rights

Starvation knows well the ax

   Watching their homeless minds

Roll severed across streets of empty hopes

         Beset by exhaustion's empty bouquet

            Spewing beneath platinum wheeled transport

               Chasing crimson sunsets

Astride tomorrow's light struggling to rise

                      While stars remain cloud heavy

                          Anticipating tomorrow's decapitations

                              Ascending coldly

“There but for fortune, go you or I.” Those that think that they can change the human condition by Spencerian, “survival of the fittest in gathering wealth,” do not realize that luck has a lot to do with having good fortune. There is absolutely no reason for people to be in the streets (or in charitable shelters either). There is enough wealth to go around. By hoarding wealth, more people will fall off the comfort of a home and meaningful work. Your poem shows us that we have much to think about when we talk about how great this country is. Freedom for the privileged is not freedom for all.

An interesting stack of images, Odinsan. And the formatting gives one the impression that the whole thing is in the process of toppling over. I have a sinking suspicion that we're only seeing the outer edges of a storm that is going to shock Americans. Your humanitarian aesthesias ring clarion. Peace...

So very sad, for far too many today.

Your work appears as shards of shattered coherence, leaving it to the reader's mind to reconstruct the imagery underlying the moment of realization. Personally I almost always need to re-read your work to access this underlying coherence. IMO you do well to keep such complex and challenging expression brief. The subject matter invites long philosophical discussions!
