Hearts of Mind
by Odin Roark
Peel
Chop
Shred
Savor
So goes the salad of experience
Pieces of organic origin
Most from toxic persuasion
The varied sweet
The acrid sour
Tough skinned resistance
Succumbing to the blade
How swift the cutting motion
From carefully picked beginnings
Life easily becomes peppery
A mustard green spice
Sliced and diced
Into a bowl of bitterness
Agenda schooled
This lancination of guise
Knows a sweet heart
With veins of purity
No match for tangy-spirited acidity
The oak keg redolence
Of a conquer-proven elixir
Oh how delicate and precise
The smooth liquid beginnings
Mere sprinkles
Flirting with palates of want
Quickly smothering Nature’s elements
With the aftertaste
Of gluttony
Struggling hearts of mind
Forever tossed about
While wanting only
To satiate virtue’s hunger
Into a bowl of bitterness
I think far too many are being 'cooked' that way today.
