Blind Curves

We all lose our way at some point in the journey. Some find themselves, others forever repeat the error. (Image by braveheart)

Poem Artwork
Blind Curves
by Odin Roark

How often the road seems rutted,
even knowing that progress begets wear,
wear solicits repair,
repair turns temporary,
temporary becomes fatigued and weary.

Such is the trek through expectancy.

Once
Bushwhacking sufficed,
convenience dictated trails and paths,
entitlement demanded guideposts,
arrival was expected as a given.

Today
Many travel impulsively,
roaming through relationships,
wandering amidst unknown dangers,
proceeding at ever increasing speed,
to become venerated by all,
seduction’s quintessential fulfillment.

For others,
closing the eyes,
resonating with breath’s inherent silence,
accepting such stillness as harmony’s whisper,
brings true arrival at destination’s essence,
leaving behind the long way traveled,
as unnecessary blind curves,
in realizing the journey’s short distance.

All to often we are positive we are on the right road. Open to diversion I guess is a good thing.

I was diagnosed early as impulsive, although I carefully plan almost everything and let serendipity play whenever it occurs because I have planned everything else. So far, my excursions into impulse have not been harmful, perhaps because I know when to withdraw, while many don't. The future is blind for everyone and there are curves ahead we must plan for. When I think of the good luck I've had that far outweighs the bad, I am grateful and it helps me have a positive outlook.

As usual, your poems elicit deep questions that face us all and enlighten us with new understanding.

Today
Many travel impulsively,
Others close their eyes.

Quite powerful, and sadly true for so many today.

Many travel with eyes opened, yet they go from one relationship to another but do not know what they are seeking in their lives, There is no such thing as "grass is greener" on the other side. If one cannot make one's grass grow green on his/her own front lawn, he/she will never make another's grass grow.

In life you need to know what you are looking for while travelling your journey, twist and turns don't mean anything if you know what you are looking for.

Just my own opinion.

There was once a time when a gifted soul, willing to work hard, could expect to ingest something salutary at the crossroads. Sadly, that process has become far too jaded and degraded in this day and age. When hard-fought individual accomplishments invariably fall on deaf ears, blind eyes, indifference, apathy, etc. it forces a person to develop philosophy's to protect themselves. Too many become insulated and defensive and more adept at rejecting others than they are in accepting them.

For me (personally) the greatest joy is the process of doing and accomplishing. The focus and the passion of creating something uniquely yours has no equal. I am sure that you can relate to that. We all walk lonely paths. To be loved, respected, understood, and accepted is embedded in the fabric of every human-being. It completes something in us. Sadly, far too many live their lives, and approach their passing, unloved and incomplete. We need a lot more than personal moxie and talent to survive and burgeon.

Your written work is thoughtful, honestly conceived, and appreciated, Kent. Thanks...
