Creation's Dance Card (a dedication)

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

The joy of thinking and creating rewards are surprisingly avoided by some. There are those who decry the process as too much “work.” Perhaps it is because to think and create is to make choices, and the lessor choices are often ashamedly avoided, never considered, easily leading to exhaustion. But, in the grand scheme of things, balance will always triumph, given opposites will always be dependent on the other in order to be. And lest we forget, harmony is forever fluctuating, always welcoming its own change, even in death. We will miss you Robin.

Creation’s Dance Card
by Odin Roark

Sunrise

We look
but don’t see
varied stages of ruin and growing
surround our beginnings
asking

Noon

We often listen
but hear little
even as inhaling winds from afar
awaken something inside us
that place where
stories aren’t just read
illustration not just pictured

we squirm
eyes
ears
entreat enigma’s dots to connect
pleading

Sundown

We turn in place asking
is such aliveness but our harlequin
playfully sounding vesper’s invading calliope
springing to life
lesson’s party of many unconnected stories
packed into dream’s blood red rosebuds
as sleep and fire
Counted
But not tended
Circulating
But not freed
Imploring

Midnight

Our lamp insists on playing sun
casting shadows across table’s plateau
imitating daylight’s sister
time’s knowing silhouette
insisting

Choice beckons
Lamp?
Shadow?
Leader?
Follower?

Creation’s dance card
That dastardly measure
Of one’s worth
According to whom?

We sleep…
And scanning the floor…
We wonder...

At what price
This last dance?

Life in a nutshell. You have a way with these kinds of things. How will one be remembered? By the life led, not by good intentions or by believing something that does not exist.

I miss him, too. I miss hearing "Good Morning, Vietnam." I miss the poignant service of "Dr. Patch Adams." And the sterling genius professor of poetry I never quite understood. I miss the improvisation and startling voices that came from nowhere. The warm friendly nature and the contribution to the art of comedy left behind.

'According to whom?' Indeed, Kent, indeed. A unique poetic memoriam to a gifted 'one-of-a-kind' human-being. Sad, for me, like the passing of Philip Seymour Hoffman. A great spiritual and mental struggle accompanies the gifts of some. Incidentally... my wife and I watched 'The Face of Love' just last weekend. A powerfully moving and unique story. Ed Harris, Annette Bening, Robin Williams and several others. If you haven't caught that one you might want to. Peace to you...
