Heroism Marauded

How forlorn the warriors of once a spirited cause,
this, the acquiescence of integrity’s fervor,
that ever-elusive quality of life,
made mush in the breakfast of power’s manifest of diet,
its nutrient of demise,
the clandestine suck on the tit of seduction.
Where might the Sophocles of wisdom
bear imprint on the lackadaisical use of life,
that wandering 21st century nomadism of existence,
stumbling into a wasteland made ready by ignorance,
a safety net of indifferent cowardice so readily provided by so many.
What did integrity of spirit succumb to?
Might the semblance of sentient quality ever return?
Consider the freedom of creation,
the ever–present, yet hesitant conviction to imagine,
the ever-sought after traitor to complacency’s status quo,
the belligerent reasoning that art of the mind demands,
simplicity’s reflection…honesty…and willingness to venture out of the box.
Yes…
It’s worth considering that the much-maligned label of heroism marauded
is but society’s monger-effort to perpetuate the complacency of ignorance.
Yes…
Heroism merits pulling forward the leaden effort of answers.

Yes, each era as its heroes. They may not be detected at first, like Nelson Mandela, but they may, or may not, emerge with time.
