As the holiday season approaches and mental afflictions make their annual spike, for some of us more fortunate than others relative to peace of mind, compassion becomes a dominant reminder, asking we consider more of what hopeless sadness might be like and perhaps reach out with a helpful hand. Gray’s Lonely Light
by Odin Roark
Dark-clouded sunrises happen,
when sanity relies only on hope,
where sudden light can sear the mind’s cornea,
rain make murky the vision,
air carry only odorous threats
of anticipated pain,
engulfed in the gray of endless boundaries.
Such becomes an artifice
realized in the mind's solitary struggle.
From birth to death,
parental captivity
to corporate slavery,
through familial dissonance
to homeless escape,
an acquiescence
battles tenacity's belligerence.
Gradually…
Ethereal puppet strings
once holding,
begin to break,
dangling lifeless willpower.
Struggling efforts
grovel among the world’s residuum,
where solipsism reigns
and munificence cowers with fear,
leaving the running, crawling, stumbling
of mind’s dwindling reserves
once again considering the conquering odds,
and perhaps a compassionate hand in the dark.
All as the day’s clouded sun sets.
